Scotch Whisky Experience alumni

Given that we’re celebrating our 30th anniversary next year, it’s no surprise that the Scotch Whisky Experience has fostered its fair share of alumni who are now making serious waves in the Scotch whisky industry, and we love staying in touch and welcoming friends back. Here are just a few who have passed through our doors and have paid us a visit in recent months…

Iain Robertson RaasayIain Robertson

Previously leading tours, tastings and Morning Masterclasses as one of our Senior Visitor Assistants, Iain graduated from Heriot Watt university’s Brewing and Distilling degree in summer 2017. He was rapidly snatched up by island-based Raasay distillery to head up production in their new distillery and visitor centre when it starts later this year. Here’s hoping he’ll be back for a private tasting sometime in the next 3+ years once the whisky is ready!

Recent visit –As part of our Edinburgh festival activities Iain came back to sample drams with our shop visitors from the Raasay and Borders whisky range.

Yoonsoo Kang

Yoonsoo was a member of our Events team, looking after corporate hospitality clients for nearly four years whilst also travelling extensively around Scotland’s distilleries at any opportunity, before becoming a brand ambassador for William Grant & Sons. Working with brands such as Balvenie, Glenfiddich and Monkey Shoulder, Yoonsoo is based in South Korea, but visits the distilleries in Scotland at least once a year.

Recent visit – Yoonsoo visited us in June with a group of Korean bartenders who enjoyed a tour, a private whisky tasting and lunch in Amber restaurant as part of their educational visit to Scotland to learn more about Balvenie, Glenfiddich and Grants.

BenRomach tasting - FinnFinn Anderson 

Finn was also a Visitor Assistant here at the Scotch Whisky Experience, before moving on to become a brand ambassador for Speyside distillery BenRomach.

Recent visit Finn was on hand for a recent training session held here for the Scotch Whisky Experience team – he talked us through the different flavour profiles of the key bottlings produced by the distillery, and also through the history of the distillery itself, which has been owned by the same family for four generations, and is the only distillery in Scotland to use traditional brewer’s and distiller’s yeast.

Simon Robinson

Simon worked as our Corporate and Digital Marketing Manager, leaving at the start of January to relocate to the Highland distillery of Aberfeldy, the home of Dewar’s Scotch whisky.  As Sales, Events and Marketing Manager Simon encourages visitors to this beautiful, well-situated distillery and visitor centre that sits just a couple of hours outside of Edinburgh.

Recent visit – As part of our distillers’ free dram days in our whisky shop Simon and the Dewars team pop in to dispense drams and tell you about their wonderful distillery.
