Walking to The Scotch Whisky Experience

We are located in the heart of Edinburgh city centre and therefore within easy walking distance of Edinburgh Waverley Station, Princes Street and many central Edinburgh hotels and attractions.

Getting Here by Train

The nearest railway station is Edinburgh Waverley Station (0.6 miles away). From Waverley Station, head towards Edinburgh’s Old Town and the Royal Mile before continuing uphill towards Edinburgh Castle. The Scotch Whisky Experience is located nearby the castle.

You can explore other things to do in Edinburgh, and book tickets via the Trainline’s website. Train tickets to Edinburgh can also be found via the Railcard website, or via Avanti West Coast.

There are taxi ranks located outside of Edinburgh Waverley Station at the Market Street exit.

Getting Here by Bus

There are no public buses that go directly to the Scotch Whisky Experience however, there are many stops within walking distance of the Royal Mile.

For current routes, timetables and city bus ticket information, visit Lothian Buses. Buses 3, 5, 7, 8, 14, 30, 31, 33, 37 and 49 all cross over, and stop on North Bridge; it is then a 0.4 mile walk to the Scotch Whisky Experience.

Getting Here by Tram

Visitors travelling from Edinburgh Airport can take a tram into Edinburgh city centre. The nearest tram stop is 0.5 miles from The Scotch Whisky Experience, with the final part of the journey towards the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle.

Driving and Parking Options

There is no visitor parking at The Scotch Whisky Experience and no parking available on the Royal Mile. If you’re driving into Edinburgh, nearby paid parking options include Castle Terrace NCP and Q-Park Quartermile. To locate nearby on-street parking, including disabled spaces, please use the  Edinburgh City Council parking map. You can also search for on-street and paid parking using the RingGo app.

Cycling to The Scotch Whisky Experience

Edinburgh has a network of cycle lanes across the city centre. Unfortunately we do not have bike racks or bike storage for use on-site, but Johnstone Terrace behind our building has plenty of railings (at your own risk!).

Secure cycle storage is available at Edinburgh Waverley Station, approximately 0.6 miles away where there are 2-tier racks.

If you would like to hire a bike to get around the city, then you can find out more from You-well. There are a few different places you can hire from across the city, at a range of prices.

Coach Drop-Off and Pick-up

Castle Terrace provides designated coach drop-off and pick-up bays, which are accessible Monday to Saturday from 8.30am to 6.30pm, and Sunday from 12.30pm – 6.30pm, with a maximum 30-minute stay. Long term parking for coaches can be found on Regent Road.

Accessible Travel to The Scotch Whisky Experience

We want to make it as straightforward as possible for everyone to plan their journey to The Scotch Whisky Experience.

All streets that lead to The Scotch Whisky Experience are on an incline. The streets are cobbled and are uneven in most places. The pavement on Castlehill is flush with the road so there is no kerb. Visitors with mobility or accessibility requirements may wish to plan their route before travelling.
