French Scrum to Descend on The Scotch Whisky Experience This Weekend
Edinburgh’s Scotch Whisky Experience is expecting to serve in excess of 10,000 drams of whisky to French rugby fans this weekend, as the Six Nations enters its final stages.
Rugby weekends always prove busy for the Capital’s restaurants and bars, but the French fans bring with them an appetite for whisky which no other nation is able to match.
It’s a little known fact that the French consume more whisky in a month than Cognac, their own national spirit, in an entire year.
This weekend, the five-star whisky visitor attraction expects to welcome 44% more visitors compared with the same weekend last year, when the Scotland vs. France fixture took place in Paris, with an additional 5,000 drams served as a result.
Lenka Whyles, head of visitor experience at The Scotch Whisky Experience, explained the increase in demand: “We welcome visitors from all over the world here at The Scotch Whisky Experience but we always have to brace ourselves for a major influx of French rugby fans every two years. Their passion for Scotland’s national drink knows no bounds and we’re extremely proud that they make The Scotch Whisky Experience their top choice when they’re in the city.
“We look forward to welcoming all of our French cousins this weekend, although we obviously hope that Scotland prevail on the pitch!”
