Henry's Coffee Company
Henry was born in October 2014. In fact, he was born on Halloween (31 October) 2014 which makes his birthday easier to remember. That means Henry is just over 7 1/2 years old. Right now, Henry is much more of an ice cream guy than a coffee guy but that might change!
‘Henry’s Coffee Company’ was born shortly thereafter in July 2015.
It was at that time when Brian, Henry’s Grandfather (more often referred to as Henry’s Papa) realised a career long aim and started their family-owned coffee business. Brian has enjoyed being steeped in the world of coffee for more than 30 years. During that time, he worked for two of Scotland’s largest coffee roasters. 20 years with one based in Glasgow and almost 10 years with the other based in Edinburgh. Throughout his long coffee experience Brian always harboured an ambition to operate his own coffee company one day. It was the life changing arrival of his first and only (so far) grandchild that encouraged Brian to really begin his coffee adventure.
When he started, he had no products to sell and no customers to sell them to.
Fast forward almost 7 years, the family business now supplies more than 250 customers spread across Scotland, mostly in central Scotland, but some as far afield as Shetland, Stonehaven, and Selkirk. Between them they sell or brew and serve more than a million cups of Henry’s coffee every year.
So, what makes Henry’s coffee so popular.
Henry’s Coffee Co. supply two key markets …
- Hospitality often referred to as HORECA (Hotels, restaurants, and Cafés)
- Independent retailers (Not supermarkets!)
The company knew that their customers operate in an extremely crowded marketplace where there are huge numbers of competitors all chasing after the same coffee drinkers. As a result, Henry’s Coffee have developed several coffee initiatives to help our customers stand out from the crowd. One of the most popular with hospitality customers is the Coffee Bean Box, a refillable tub that is delivered full of beans and then collected to be refilled. An eco-friendly initiative that results in zero packaging waste.
For retail customers they work creatively together to design (then roast and pack) their very own coffee brand. It was following a presentation by Susan Morrison (Chief Executive, The Scotch Whisky Experience) telling the story of ‘The Scotch Whisky Experience’ that Henry’s Coffee Company were invited by Susan to work with the retail team in Edinburgh to produce a bespoke coffee offer. The rest as they say is history.
Coffee is a wonderful business to work in. There are few, if any, other products that have grown and grown in popularity over the years Brian has been involved.
Let’s hope for Henry’s sake that continues to be the case!
At The Scotch Whisky Experience we are delighted to stock both ground coffee and coffee beans supplied by Henry’s coffee company.
