The Scottish Bee Company

Next up in our Meet our Makers Blog is The Scottish Bee Company.

The Scottish Bee Company jars of honey

The Scottish Bee Company was founded by Iain and Suzie Millar in 2017. They felt strongly about the UK’s declining bee population and decided to do something to help. Their passion and determination prompted them to adopt some bees, hire a team of expert bee farmers and brought them together in the heather covered hills of Scotland to produce a uniquely flavourful selection of honeys that evoke a sense of Scotland’s unspoiled wilderness. Winner of a Great Taste award, The Scottish Bee Company’s heather honey is also the first product in the UK to gain the BSI kitemark for food assurance and quality.

Provenance, purity, social responsibility and environmental sustainability is so important to them and they wanted to assure their customers around the world that’s what they are getting. The Scottish Bee Company now hosts a range of ethically sourced products from vinegars made with fresh ingredients by working with local farmers to 100% beeswax candles.

Bee farmers

The Scottish Bee Company are committed to social responsibility and are working with local bee farmers to grow the bee farming industry in Scotland. With an urgent need for more bee farmers to meet the demand for Scottish honey, they are keen to support and develop new talent within the industry.

Their hives

The Scottish Bee Company utilises the best hives for the welfare of all their bees. Their hives are specially designed to nurture the bee population and specifically for keeping them safe during the cold Scottish winter months. Today, The Scottish Bee Company have over 500 hives equating to around 28 million bees at the height of summer!

Suzie and Iain also started a sister charity Repollinate that aims to protect all types of pollinators through wildflowers spaces and education programmes. 10p from every jar of honey purchased is donated to Repollinate. Although they now have a wonderful team working for them, The Scottish Bee Company still carries its heritage and is still a family (and friend) business with pollination and bees at heart.

We are buzzing to be stocking The Scottish Bee Company Honey Giftset, with a jar of their Signature Blend Honey and their Scottish Heather Honey along with some wildflower seeds so you can do your bit to help the bees too.
