This month’s “Meet our Maker” is Ashers Bakery. Ashers is a family run company and has been since 1877. Alister and George Asher are the current joint Managing Directors, with Robbie Asher who works in the bakery, being the 5th generation to be employed in the business. They are based in Nairn where they have their modern SALSA-accredited* production facility and bake locally for 12 of their own shops and cafes, as well as for a range of outlets across the North of Scotland. Their biscuits and cakes are sold nationally as well as overseas.

The Scotch Whisky Experience stocks their whisky cakes, which were launched in 1999 and won Scottish Gift of the Year that year. They are made using Single malt Scotch whisky from the Highlands, Islands and Speyside. 15ml of whisky is added after baking each cake, the maximum they are allowed to add without it being a licensed product. As well as the wonderful flavour it creates when married with the fruit cake, it gives them a longer 12-month shelf life!
In 2014 they won the Scottish Baker of the Year award (pictured).
