In 1825, Arthur Bell opened a small shop in Perth, where he started selling whisky and tea, but he was certainly better at one more than the other. In the 1850’s Arthur went against the grain by blending multiple fine whiskies to create what would become the famous Bell’s Blend.
Bell’s remained a family operation when in 1895, Arthur’s two sons joined the company, and the name ‘Arthur Bell and Sons’ first appeared on the bottles label. 100 years after Arthur first opened his shop, Bell’s famous slogan ‘Afore ye go’, made its first appearance. Both of these sayings still appear on every bottle of Bell’s made today.
In 1978, Bell’s was crowned as the UK’s No.1 whisky; it was an achievement over 150 years in the making.
Bell’s combines a select blend of grain and single malt whiskies from some of Scotland’s most well-known distilleries. Glenkinchie, Caol Ila, Blair Athol, Dufftown and Inchgower are all used to create the famous Bell’s recipe that dates back to the 19th century.
