Eco & Sustainability – WhiskHy project at Ardmore Distillery

Ardmore, owned by Beam Suntory is at the forefront of some fascinating research extracting hydrogen (hence the Hy!) from the distillery wastewater using local renewable energy potentially  leading to the elimination of carbon emissions from the distilling process.

The distillery will be the first of many to benefit from the new ultra-efficient green hydrogen solution.

1898 saw the distillery founded by Adam Teacher, and the location on Scotland’s Highland Train Line was fundamental in the early years of transportation.  The water is still drawn to this day from the original source, naturally rising springs that sit on the 1,500 foot tall Knockandy Hill from where you may be lucky enough to spot a soaring golden eagle, the symbol of the distillery.

The Scotch whisky industry is on an ambitious journey towards full decarbonisation and Beam Suntory is aiming to go beyond net zero carbon emission across all its distilleries and activities by 2040.
