The World's Largest Scotch Whisky Collection is back
Following recent work on the vault cabinets housing the World’s Largest Collection of Scotch Whisky, we’re delighted to say that the Scotch Whisky Collection is now back on public view.
The Scotch Whisky Experience have been the custodians of the Diageo Claive Vidiz Scotch Whisky Collection since 2009, when 3,384 bottles – gathered over 35 years by Brazilian businessman Claive Vidiz – were sold to Diageo for an undisclosed sum. The collection was sold with the intention that it would be placed on display for public appreciation, and where better than the home of Scotch whisky on the city’s famous Royal Mile?
Since 2009, more than one million people have visited the Collection so it was time for some TLC. The recent refurbishments were undertaken during Edinburgh’s typically quieter period of January-February, and we have upgraded the lighting, air conditioning and general storage facilitation – all the technical aspects that have improved over the last decade. All the work has been behind the scenes and the (somewhat frustrating) measure of success is that you cannot see the difference!
While the Collection was off of private view, we’ve been running an exciting campaign to showcase the stories and memories behind those special bottles of Scotch, in #TheBottleINeverOpened. Figures from the Scotch whisky industry were asked to tell us their story, and members of the public can submit their own video and use the hashtag for the chance to win a two-night break in Edinburgh, including a stay at the iconic Balmoral Hotel on Princes Street, a Taste of Scotland dining experience here at the Scotch Whisky Experience, plus other exclusive private whisky experiences for two.
The closing date for entries to The Bottle I Never Opened competition is Sunday 17th March 2019 at midnight.
As well as tours and tastings, the World’s Largest Collection of Scotch Whisky can also host private whisky tastings and dining events for up to 10 people. Whisky tours can be booked up to three months ahead, so if you’re planning a trip to Edinburgh this summer, make sure a trip to the World’s Largest Collection of Scotch Whisky is on your schedule.
