A Rising Star

Becca buckner (1) detail

We’re excited to announce that Becca Buckner, a member of our award-winning retail team, has been named as a regional finalist for the prestigious Rising Star Award at VisitScotland’s Regional Thistle Awards for 2018.

Becca, who has been with the Scotch Whisky Experience since 2014, began as a student on the Diageo ‘Learning for Life, Get into Specialist Retail’ programme.  After graduating successfully Becca took a part-time role as Retail Advisor in our onsite whisky shop.  Having progressed and developed in the team over the past four years, Becca was selected for our 2018 management apprenticeship scheme, which saw four team members receive cross-departmental training to build their managerial skills in the whisky tourism sector. She was nominated for this award for her dedication and commitment in a role that has seen her develop into a brilliant asset, not just within the retail remit but with the Scotch Whisky Experience as a whole.

The Regional Thistle Awards, which take place in November, showcase the very best amongst Scotland’s attractions, accommodation providers and experiences. The Rising Star Award is a chance for businesses to honour those in their team who show true potential in their field, and who have committed to building their skills and experience within their position.

Becca’s shortlisting comes hot on the heels of the recent news that the Scotch Whisky Experience has yet again received a five-star rating from VisitScotland, retaining the accolade which it has held since the rating scheme began in 2000. Last year the Scotch Whisky Experience was a regional finalist in the Best Visitor Attraction category.

“We’re incredibly proud of Becca’s achievement”, says Chief Executive, Susan Morrison. “Having met Becca whilst running the Learning for Life training it has been a real privilege to see her continue to learn and develop over her time with us. She is an incredibly hard worker and is greatly respected and trusted by everyone she interacts with – from her colleagues and peers, through to those she advises on whisky in our onsite shop. Becca is exactly the sort of candidate that these awards should be highlighting, and her place as one of only two finalists is richly deserved.”

The Thistle Award Regional Finals take place at Prestonfield House on 15th November.
