The Whisky Tour (Duration: 1 hour approx)The WHISKY TOUR is devoted to telling the story of Scotland’s most famous product: Scotch Whisky. Here we bring the story of whisky to life in a fun yet informative way.
Your group will experience Scotland’s turbulent past and discover the ancient traditions surrounding Scotch Whisky making. Learn all about Scotch Whisky including the characters who helped make it the biggest selling single source spirit in the world. Our enthusiastic tour guides will reveal the secrets of Scotch Whisky and your pupils will be transported back in time to discover the last 300 years of Scotch Whisky history in our special whisky barrel ride. Experience Scotch Whisky through the sights, sounds and smells of our fascinating ride through whisky history. You will also meet the Blender’s Ghost who will reveal some of the secrets of Scotch Whisky blending.
Learning outcomes will include:
- The history of whisky making
- The geography of the different whisky regions
- The science behind the process of whisky distilling
- Children will also discover the smugglers, excise men, soldiers, town guards, inventors and entrepreneurs who made Scotch Whisky the biggest selling single source spirit in the world.

We want your visit to run as smoothly as possible in order that you and your pupils gain and truly benefit from the Scotch Whisky Experience. If you have any questions in advance of your visit, please do not hesitate to contact us with your requirements. Our visits can be tailored to suit all ages and interests, so please let us know in advance of any special requirements you may have.
1 teacher is admitted free of charge per 10 pupils. Should you be arriving by coach, your coach driver is also admitted free of charge.
Opening hours
We are open 364 days a year and closed on Christmas Day. Our standard hours are 10am – 6pm (September to May) with the last tour at 5pm. During our extended summer hours (June, July, August) we are open from 10.00am – 6.30pm with the last tour at 5.30pm.
Coach parking
Off season there is ample coach parking on the Castle Esplanade, we are only a few steps away. During peak season, there may be may be parking available on Johnston Terrace or in the NCP car park on Castle Terrace.
Lunch space
Unfortunately we cannot accommodate pack-lunch space for school groups.
Language Translations
In addition to English the tour is offered in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese, Russian and Mandarin Chinese. There is no additional charge. Please let us know in advance of your booking if you wish the Tour to be run in any of the above languages.
